The variety of tonings ranging from light golden-brown to deep brown, sometimes with a reddish tint and occasionally showing black streaks makes Tasmanian Blackwood a classic furniture timber.
Blackwood is highly resilient, yet easy to work. It cuts, drills, planes and nails quite well and cleanly. It is a good timber for bending. It also dresses and turns well and takes a high polish.
